So… I made a styrofoam mask for my casting class. There were some issues… The cup (into which the metal is poured on its way to burn out the foam) floated up, and the liquid aluminum filled that void instead of flowing into the horns. Another problem with the horns (and I saw this one coming) is that they were so goddamn thick! The problem with thick places is that metal stays liquid there for longer than thinner places. When the thinner places cool, the metal shrinks, and liquid metal can flow into those voids (which is usually the plan…). This time, the combination of those two factors made a loooot of porosity. So much of this casting is so thin that the sand blaster punched holes in it… But it’s cool :) this is only my first big casting
